What kind of friend would I be if I didn't let you know what's the newest/latest and greatest in my life. The thing is I decided that this blog should be for updating you all on all things acting and film related. So I moved all my other creative juices to my official blog page theothersideofnat.wordpress.com. Don't worry I'm working on getting an actual .com for that bad boy. I'll still post on here but like I said this will be my blog geared towards acting, all my latest and greatest news, as well as general out pour of actor angst because we all know every actor has a bit of a brooding side. All of that will be found here.
So in the mean time stick around parooze the site. Take a gander at my gallery and what not and i'll check back in with you soon.
Recently I bought my first succulent. I usually refrain from plants as I usually end up killing them. In my defence it's usually from over watering, so it's really death by too much love. By now you're probably wondering how many time's I can use usually in the first paragraph, right? But I've learned my lesson and will no longer over water any present or future plants.
I decided my little succulent, needed two things. First thing she needed a name, and secondly she needed a home. So first things first, I formally introduce to the internet Suzie-Lou Succulent, adopted on June 3, 2016. Now since I am taking plant parent hood very seriously I knew my Suzie-Lou needed to have one of the chicest digs a succulent can have. Therefore I did the easiest DIY around, and now her house makes her pop and is tumblr perfect.
Here's what you'll need to DIY the perfect little home for your succulent children.
1. Succulent of choice.
2. Plain pot.
3. Paint colour of your choice.
4. Paint brush.
5. Paint tray or another paint holding container.
6. Optional coffee filter.
So you're going to grab your pot and start painting it. I decided to be boring with white, but hey, white matches my room and to be completely honest my Instagram theme. Honest moment here, I try way too hard at Insta, and I'm not afraid to be straight up about it. On another note I really do love simple things in general so white it was.
So after you paint it. It's time for you to plant your succulent. I added a coffee filter first so that any soil I put in it wont gush out when I water my little baby. Note, gush is a gross word.
Once you've planted your little plant child you can go ahead and water it a little. then take a billion and one picture for Instagram like any normal parent would.
So that's my little DIY planter make over. It was super inexpensive and can be done in less than an hour. Let me know if you're a succulent owner and what kind of home you've found for it!
Sometimes I dream of being a blogger on the side of my acting career. I would of course hope to have a beautiful, aesthetically pleasing, perfect Instagram account and blog to match. However I am merely a casual blogger, so to think I could reach that level of blogger awesomeness well, it's just ridiculous. Yet here I am trying to attain it. Lots of bloggers and YouTubers do monthly favourites. They break down the products that they have favorited that month. Usually it includes beauty products and maybe food. Mine will be no different. So with out further a due, here we go.
1. MAC EYESHADOW - GLEAM
2. NYX COSMETICS - PERFECT RED
3. REDKEN TWO SMOOTH 03
4. LUSH - RUB RUB RUB
Rub Rub Rub is a miracle worker. I went into Lush looking for the perfect product for my rough and bumpy back as well as something to combat my dry skin. I tried both Ocean Salt and this one and it was by far my favourite. It has a delicate scent and it's a little soapy (which helps with hydration) with a lot of exfoliation. If you haven't given it a shot I highly recommend checking it out. It's also perfect for sensitive skin.
5. LIVING LIBATIONS - GRAPEFRUIT OIL
6. Iced Almond Milk
7. Goat Yogurt Dip
These are a few of my favourite things. Let me know if you've tried any of these products or what your favourite things are!
All thoughts on products are my own, unpaid opinion.
If you're an artist than you know that there is a constant desire in your soul to create. If you're stagnant too long that's when you feel your life start to spiral, you question your purpose and you question the life you've chosen. I was in that same position when I decided I rather take a risk and put myself out there than idle any longer. Thus my YouTube channel was created.
I do not post anything I'm not proud of and have not worked extremely hard on. I may never get a million views and I may only be making videos for my 24 subscribers. Either way, I'm not starting this journey for fame or money but for a way to feel my voice is heard, even if it's only by 24 people.
I don't know what my YouTube journey will look like and I'm 1000% okay with that. I think that's half the fun, wondering who in the world will see your little creations. So world, here is one of my little creations.
I hope you enjoy getting to know me a little more.
Make sure you give it a thumbs up and comment down below how you liked it.
If you've always wanted to start a YouTube channel, go for it! It's so rewarding for yourself. I've gained confidence in myself as a filmmaker and as a person. Go out and pursue your passions, get creative and let your voice be heard because there are people who need to hear your unique voice.
With much love,
I feel like every post I have made so far is about the spring. I seem to especially like to focus on the sun and warmth it has brought with it. This post is going to be no different.
Though the rain has come and gone, I still cling to the smell of fresh blooming cherry blossoms (which BC is blessed to have many of) and the smell of slight smoke from the farmers burning the left over signs of winter. This is the best time to go on adventures. My mom and I are big explorers! We'll get in the car and purposely drive down roads that say no exit or get "lost" out in the country searching to see what we can find.
We went on one of these adventures the other day. We hadn't done this in a while, but we had the windows down and the wind was blowing through our hair. We drove down bumpy country roads, and avoided going home at all costs. We even occasionally parked the car to the side of the road (or sometimes in the middle of, if it was a dead end) to get out and take pictures. My mom is a photographer, and she passed that spark down to me.
I don't just enjoy taking photos as we go along these adventures. As an actor and storyteller I find exploring like this ignites a light inside my soul. We'll drive by big open fields, small hobby farms, houses with a white picket fence. monster homes, small towns, tree lined driveways, abandoned old cars rusting away being over taken by nature. All of these things create one question over and over again. I wonder what story has, is or could take place here? My imagination soars and I begin to build it as I know best, like a movie.
I may never reach the worlds standard of stardom. But if there is one thing I want to do with my life, it will always be to tell stories. These adventures I take remind me that I'm not doing this for fame, money (definitely not money) or validation. I'm telling stories because I want people to experience this light, this spark of wonder, the rush of emotions as they take an adventure through a story, via, cinema, TV, or books. I want to evoke emotions, make memories, and build dreams. Taking adventures, also means taking risks. So I dare you to risk this week, I dare you to risk towards your dream, to do something that brings you to life. Go on an adventure, smell the cherry blossoms, and ignite the fire in your soul.
Make sure to comment down below if you have any favourite place to go for adventures, I also want to know what inspires you to follow your dreams? Let's go out and seize the day, have a blessed week,
This spring season has been such a blessing. All the warm and sunny days mean good bye dreary hashtags (#raincouver #clouds #sadness #gloomy) and hello to nice pretty ones (#springishere #sunnyday #warm #flowers). That's right my Vancouverites and whoever else lives in a country, state or province of perpetual torrential down pour, it's time to put those umbrella emoji's away (for now) and whip out those sun emoji's.
With the warmth and sun shining, I find myself in a state of longing for Summer. Where there is sand between my toes, smoothies constantly in hand and sea salt on my skin. So as the months get warmer I bust out my smoothie for breakfast routine (I can't drink smoothies during winter, I get chilled to the bone and I never warm up!). I love smoothies, they are wonderful, healthy and delicious.
As an actor I need to make sure my mind and body are both healthy and fit, you never know when you're going to turn into a zombie for TV (Speaking of, catch me in the season 2 finale of iZombie, "Salivation Army" at 9pm on The CW #blatantselfpromotion). Since I could be working 16 hour days back to back I need to have my energy, that's why I pack my smoothie with extra vitamins. I tend to forget them as a part of my daily intake so I just throw them in my smoothie and It really gives me the power boost I need.
Since I love smoothies, and I hope you do too I thought I'd share my favourite smoothie combo. Don't hold me to the amounts because let's be real I eye ball everything for measurements.
1. Take (what I'm assuming is) a 16oz blender cup (you know the ones that come with the magic bullet type machines) and fill it with frozen blueberries. I fill it about an inch or two from the top,
2. Then I take a banana, break if up and fill up the remaining space in my cup. If it's small I'll put it all in, if it's big I'll just do half. Sometimes I throw in a leaf or two of kale as well, but if you're going to do this you might want to use less blue berries. There's only so much room in those cups.
***Caffeine Side note: If you need some extra "wake me up" you can add a teaspoon of Match. My personal favourite is David's Tea's Matcha Matsu.***
3. Then I take my chia seeds and use one scoopful (about a tablespoon) along with about a tablespoon of hemp hearts and throw those bad boys in.
4. Now it's time for those extra vitamins and minerals. I take a teaspoon of Lemon flavoured fish oil, then I bust open some calcium and magnesium pills and pour that in.
5. Next I take my Vega One French Vanilla protein powder and use the recommended amount based off of what the container says.
6. Then I take a measuring cup and fill roughly a half a cup of water. I microwave it for 45-50 seconds then I pour that in and blend it all up. This is to help make it easier to blend because my blueberries are like little rocks unless given a little warm loving.
Then you can either pour it into a glass add a little hemp hearts to garnish, add a straw and bam blueberry smoothie heaven.
I hope you love it and will try making it at home. I know having a smoothie, even if I don't plan on working out makes me feel healthy and sometimes that's all you need to make your day start out right.. Let me know if you make it in the comments down below.
Have a blessed week friends.
Me oh my, I barely have words to articulate how full my heart feels. If you were not aware I was a part of iZombie season two finale that aired on April 12th playing "Ginger" (type casting for the win). If you don't know what iZombie is, I highly suggest you get acquainted because the fandom is growing stronger and stronger. It's not a typical zombie style show, which is so cool. It's the perfect blend of comedy and drama. Rob Thomas I salute you a multitude of times for your impeccable creative choices in what you bring to our televisions,
Being on a CW show was a dream of mine since I was a budding young actor and to have been on The Flash and now iZombie, well God is just too good to me. I remember my first day on set, I was so nervous, It was only the second big budget show I had been on. There was two different sets close to each other and I had almost ended up parking at the UnReal crew park instead of iZombie. The nerves never left, but they did subside. Michael Fields the director, was so fun to work with, he put me at ease and I really felt like I was collaborating to tell this story.
The CW sure does know how to hire 'em. Rose, Robert, Malcolm, Steven, Leanne, Andrea, all of them are absolute astounding talent. As a younger actor I was trying to soak everything up like a sponge from watching them. The crew also stole my heart, their make up and hair team was a gem that I looked forward to every morning. Their AD's, producers, gaffers, craft services you name it, they have a place in my heart. I didn't fully realize the power that story telling has behind the screen till this experience. I also didn't realize my heart could be so full and not burst. I walked away from iZombie, having faced fears, laughing till I cried, learning from phenomenal actors and one hundred percent in love with every person there.
As I watched the episode the other night, I relived the memories made behind the camera, the special ones that I will hold dear for as long as I act (which I hope is till the day I die). I hope to never lose sight of this awe and wonder I have. To never become jaded and to always have fun. Thank you to the producers, the network, Michael Fields, Coreen and Heike Casting, for giving me this opportunity to live out my dream and to grow and learn as a person and as an actor. I will treasure it forever.
I hope you all have opportunities to go and pursue the things that make your heart swell, life is really too short to not do what you love. Let me know what you dream of doing and what you thought of "Salivation Army" if you saw it in the comments below, If you haven't seen the episode hit up the internet and give it a watch.
Love and blessings to you all.
We're back to the rain here in Vancouver and oh man, if you live in a place where it rains a lot please raise your internet hand and tell me you feel me. When that sun comes out its glorious, but when it's gone it's actually sad. Seasonal Effected Disorder is a thing people, and boy do I have it.
But despite the rain and clouds that have come our way, I like to think of it this way (as I sit in front of my S.A.D light). April showers bring May flowers, I know you've heard that little ditty before. It may seem like the last thing you want to hang your hope on when those clouds are getting you down. But I am here to tell you the sun and flowers will come and they will be glorious.
When things are a little too grey for my liking I pop over to my local grocery store and pick up a small bouquet of flowers for myself and I suggest you do as well. Having a bouquet of flowers in my room actually changes everything for me, I feel happier, healthier, lighter, and it ups my Instagram game by like 10% (I'm only half kidding). They are just flowers I know, I think half of it is in my head, but in all realness it's a wonderful way to up your room décor and maybe lift the heaviness of dark clouds.
If you're feeling the dreariness and you decide to take me up on picking up some flowers let me know in the comments below. I also want to know what's your favourite flower? Mine are Peonies and Tulips.
As always be blessed, know the sun will come again and flowers solve everything (not really but we can pretend).
If you didn't know I was obsessed with coconut, well you're about to get familiar with my obsession real quick. Back in the day all I knew of coconut was it was great shredded on top of ice cream, cakes or baked into cookies. I had no idea the potential of what I was eating at the time. Now I'm older wiser and in love with coconut.
My most common intake of coconut is via coconut milk. In cereals, lattes, sometimes with gluten free Oreo's and smoothies are other ways I like to enjoy that beautiful translucent white liquid. I have also come to love the actual flesh of the coconut, fresh flesh is best (iZombie really got to me...) try saying that ten times fast. The only thing that prevents me from eating it more would have to be the fact that I have not mastered opening a coconut. That's where dried (slightly candied) coconut comes in. My favourite is when you get the big bag at Costco, I could sit there and eat it for hours. Which is what I am currently doing.
Another way I love to consume coconut is via coconut oil. It was at the point where my slogan was "Coconut oil I put that sh** on everything!" I've calmed down since. But come summer if you ever think "hmm Natalie you have a lovely glow, what do you use?" my answer will be coconut oil. Then you will follow my answer with your eyes bulging out of your face in confusion as to how I'm not a walking lobster. Coconut oil actually acts as an SPF 15. Is it smart? I'm not 100% sure, but I haven't burnt yet. I must say though I don't always walk around with just coconut oil, I wear sunscreen too. Coconut oil can act as a wonderful healthy substitution for butter. coconut oil, raspberry jam and toast, yum. I also use coconut oil for moisturizer, it's so lovely right after a shave (ladies try it!). It's great for hair too, I find it helps tame my frizzies and as a curly haired gal, that can come in handy.
I could go on for hours and hours about coconut. Instead I'll let you do the rest of the research and get creative. Pinterest is a perfect place to start if you want to find different creative ways to consume coconut. Now if you'll excuse me I'm going to go eat come coconut milk ice cream because #coconut and #dairyfree.
Happy Fri-yay ya'll.
Spring is slowly becoming my absolute favourite time of year. Spring reminds me that after every winter, flowers and warmth will come. As an actor, most of us go though spells of insane busyness and spells where it's so dead you think you're living in a savannah. That insane busyness usually comes right around the spring time because of pilot season. Pilots are the beginning of a new show that could potentially grow into 11 seasons (I'm looking at you Supernatural). As you can see there is a theme of new beginnings and growth in the spring.
I have been blessed with the opportunity to reap some of that spring loving by being cast in the season 2 finale of the CW show iZombie (Airing April 12th). It was an amazing experience and I left that set utterly and completely in love with every person on the cast and crew. My heart swelled with sadness as I left. But I know it wasn't good bye forever but at least till next time. I'm not meaning specifically on iZombie, unless the show runners decide to bring my character back (which I wouldn't object to at all!). Vancouver is hopping, so who knows what project I'll run into those special humans again on.
I finished filming that about three weeks ago and it has left a spring in my step. It has left a sense of hope for what is to come, and it sprang up a new refreshed love and outlook at what I have chosen to do with my life.
I hope this spring brings about a renewal of joy and love in your life. May you go out in pursuit of your dreams with confidence, joy and a fierceness knowing that there is a time for everything and every season under heaven (Ecclesiastes 3:1). This is the beginning of your new season. Go out there and embrace everything it has to offer.
